The commandment interpretation book “Aderet Eliyahu” was written in the year 5290 (1530) in Constantinople (Istanbul) by the sage Eliyahu Bašyazi of blessed memory. This book is the most comprehensive and most common book of interpretation of commandments among Karaite Jews. The book was published in three editions: the first time in Istanbul in 5290 (1530), and twice in the 19th century: in Gözleve (1835) and in Odessa (1870). This edition is based on the Odessa edition of 1870, and was published in Israel in 1966.
The book’s Hebrew style, which is bright and incredibly precise, its structure logical which facilitates its use, the multi-sidedness of the interpretations of commandments in the book and the general material in it - all these have raised “Aderet Eliyahu” to the level of masterpiece, which some see as the most comprehensive commandment interpretation book, which is used to this day as the cornerstone of any reference to interpretations of commandments.
