Shmuel Ben Shemaria Pigit, a member of the Karaite community, was a cantor and a scholar who was interested in folk stories. In 1907 he published a book called “Davar Dabur” (Hatzfira Publishing Warsaw) with “27 stories of the stories of the ancient people as told among the peoples of Turkey and Crimea.”
Some of the stories were drawn from written sources and some were written down by the author as he heard them from storytellers. He worded them all in a fluent and rich Biblical language. The book was reprinted in Israel by the Association in 1977.
